City of Strangers Audio Trail

Launches Thursday 8 July

Across Norwich

Norwich is a city of strangers. The YNA Collective want to unveil a city that is quite literally built on diversity and community by creating a unique audio tour of the city. The tour will use the ECHOES app, using geolocated sound to provide an immersive journey around Norwich.

Inspired by the City of Strangers project, the audio trail will include submissions from Queer Norfolk Stories and Sound Systems. Find out more below……

Sound Systems

Let members of the YNA Collective on a sonic adventure!

Sound Systems explores our very own individual theme tunes; the songs our nervous systems crave and sing. Produced by Roxanne Matthews and the BBC Voices team. You can discover the Collective’s own Sound Systems throughout Norwich city centre as part of the trail.

How to explore the trail

Download the ECHOES application to your smart phone. You will be able to search for either “Sound Systems” to reveal the locations and sounds for each project. Simply walk around the city (headphones recommended) and when you reach the locations with the ECHOES application you’ll be able to hear the sounds. If you can’t make it to the locations you can also download the sounds to listen to wherever.

Queer Norfolk Stories

Celebrating the wonderful extraordinary ordinary lives of local LGBT+ people.

You can listen to stories recorded by LGBT+ people in our community at locations across Norwich. You will also be able to access transcripts of each story if you would like to. This project is part of the 2021 Young Norfolk Arts Festival and Norwich Pride Inspired, and is funded by Festival Bridge as part of the #MovingItOn programme.
